The One Lovely Blog Award #2

one-lovely-blog

I was nominated for the One Lovely Blog Award by the lovely Bibliofiles13 – thank you!  Go check out their blog if you haven’t already, their book reviews are great.

The Rules

  • Add the One Lovely Blog Award logo to your post.
  • Share 7 things about yourself.
  • Pass this on to as many people as you like (max 15).
  • Include this set of rules.
  • Inform your nominees.

7 Facts About Me

1. I have a freakishly good memory… I read this exchange from JK Rowling’s The Silkworm last night and sent it to three of my friends who all replied immediately being like ‘that is literally you though.’  (Nothing spoilery in this dialogue.)

“Go on,” said Culpepper noncommittally.
“You’ve got a cousin called Nina who works for Roper Chard–”
“How the hell do you know that?”
“You told me,” said Strike patiently.
“When?”
“Few months ago when I was investigating that dodgy dentist for you.”
“Your fucking memory,” said Culpepper, sounding less impressed than unnerved.  “It’s not normal.  What about her?”

2. I try to set a TBR each month but I’m such a mood reader at heart.  I definitely believe that ‘this came to me at the right/wrong time’ is a very valid experience to have with any given book.

3. I’m currently making an effort to use Twitter more often, so feel free to follow me @paceamoregelato for hopefully bookish things as well as pictures of my cats and me complaining about seasonal allergies.

4. I went to Tulane University in New Orleans but I never had to evacuate for a hurricane.  The only #hurrication that happened those four years was in the fall when I was abroad.

5. At my last count I think I’ve met either 21 or 22 online friends in real life.

6. I swear a lot… a lot, a lot, a lot, so I’m actually proud of the fact that my blog has managed to not be terribly profane so far.

7. The only cars I’ve ever owned have been stick shifts.  The few times I’ve driven automatics, I always forget to put them in park (why is that a thing?!) and then have a momentary panic when they don’t start.

I nominate:

Chelsea / Steph / Hadeer

Charlotte / Ann / Kristin

Though I will obviously not be offended if you skip it.

Have a good day, friends!

    • SAME like I am constantly having to pretend to forget information about people so I don’t seem creepy. Like sorry I don’t necessarily care about this random fact from three years ago but I am also not going to forget it any time soon!!!!

  1. I’m so glad you’re trying to use Twitter more! I was totally confounded by it at first but I’ve warmed up to it a lot.

Re: #5, frankly I’m amazed that you even know that many people!

    • I still wish I liked Twitter more than I do… I don’t know what it is about it, I just find it hard to spend a lot of time on there, whereas with Tumblr etc I can fall down that rabbit hole for hours.

I am like… weirdly social for being such an antisocial person? It’s a dichotomy that I will forever struggle to understand. I think the simplified version is that I’m just social on the internet.

      • For me, Twitter is a lot more exhausting. First off it’s all text, unlike Tumblr, which is a lot of pretty graphics. But mostly, I follow a lot of accounts that talk news/politics/social justice so after a while it just gets tiring to be mired in that all the time, I guess? And people don’t really shitpost on Twitter, so it tends to be more serious and require more brainpower to process. So while I enjoy Twitter, I definitely can’t be on it for more than, like, forty minutes at a time.

      • YEAH EXACTLY I definitely struggle with finding that balance – I want to follow a lot of political and social justicey people but I would also lose my mind if that’s all I saw? And just the aesthetic layout of the site both on the computer and on mobile stresses me out, I can only ever do a few minutes at a time with Twitter.

  2. I’ve considered hopping back on Twitter…I had a personal one where I just tweeted random thoughts but kind of phased out of it when everyone’s tweets started getting political and everyone was yelling about Trump and I couldn’t deal with that anymore. Technically I have a lostpurplequill handle but have never used it…maybe if I could somehow make twitter a pleasant place again?? Start over anew?? Books and cats sound very nice.

    • YES JOIN US TO TALK ABOUT BOOKS AND CATS. I know what you mean, Twitter is way too political for me most of the time…. like I like to stay informed but I also can’t deal with thinking about the doomed state of our country 24/7??? My dad also has MSNBC on ALL THE TIME and I’m just like WHY!!!! Like I need to desensitize from that sometimes. I just never know how I want to use Twitter, like if I should keep it ~professional~ or use it to take Harry Potter quizzes and send my friends memes…. with my return to Twitter I told myself it was going to be the former but it has so far been 100% the latter but tbh I am having a blast, so oh well!

      • OKAY I THINK I WILL. I just went on it and it’s literally just an empty account and I follow like 15 random authors and internet personalities, so I need to spruce it up a bit lol. Omg I know though, like I could use it to promote my posts or w/e, but…I’m so weak for random thoughts and dumb memes. I’m kind of sad I left my old twitter though because my handle was @cciosteph and it’s so appropriately bookish….but too many ~real life people~ from college and whatnot that I don’t talk to much anymore follow me and I want to start again where no one can find me lol.

      • YAY DO IT!!!! Omg it took me an embarrassingly long time to get @cciosteph but I GOT IT AND IT’S AMAZING omg that’s tragic that it is invaded by rl people. I am such a pro at hiding from school acquaintances on the internet so I feel your pain. My Twitter handle used to be my full name but I was like NOPE gotta go incognito and live my best life hiding from these people.

      • OKAY I THINK I’M GONNA DO IT. I just need to like, get some cover photos so it’s not barren. I think I’m going to change my handle to @cciopurplequill kind of as a counter to my name on here…which is actually a REALLY obscure Harry Potter reference from the Order of the Phoenix movie. A purple quill is one of the items on Luna’s list of lost stuff that she’s looking for at the end of the movie and Harry runs into her. I don’t even remember how that occurred to me tbh, I just remember it took me forever to find a satisfactory name for this blog lol.

      • OMG I didn’t know that was the origin of your username THAT IS AMAZING. Tbh I just assumed you love purple, which, #same. But that’s even better that it’s canon. I didn’t put a whole lot of effort into my username but if I had known that people were actually going to like…. follow me?? on this account I probably would have chosen something in English that is pronounceable hahaha. Anyway yes FOLLOW ME ON TWITTER WHEN YOUR ACCOUNT HAS BEEN REVAMPED. I love the @cciopurplequill idea.

      • I put waaay too much effort into my name, because I wanted it to be vaguely bookish but not like “oh that’s a Harry Potter blog” and also touches on writing and reading. I think I went a little TOO obscure but after taking forever trying to think of something I didn’t really care anymore lol. I like your username though because it really stands out! Like blogs that use different phrases with the words bookworm or book lover are a lot harder for me to remember individually so I have to say I appreciate when people don’t use that in their blog names haha.

      • OH MY GOD I KNOW I follow so many blogs on here and I literally cannot tell a solid 80% of them apart. I don’t mind the ones that are like ‘Rachel reads books’ because at least you’ve got a name in there to distinguish you, but the ones that are like ‘booklover’ are just like……. oh my god you’ve gotta give me more than that to work with buddy WHO ARE YOU??

I love your username though!!!! Your effort paid off tbh!! I’ve always liked the lost part too, like purplequill would be fine but lostpurplequill just has so much more character.

  3. I’m definitely more of a lurker on twitter, but I’m trying to use it more as well, it’ll be nice to have someone to talk to!

And S O O N for meeting in real life! I think I’m most excited to meet you, and only slightly less excited to meet your famous cats!

    • OMG so I had this moment where I actually forgot that we haven’t met already… I was thinking about this meet up and I was like ‘oh yay I’ll be able to add Steph to my list’ but I guess I assumed you were already on it?! Facepalm moment. But YES so excited!!!!
